Colonial Printing is supported by Academic Technologies (AT) and GW Libraries, along with other campus partners including GW School of Business, School of Engineering & Applied Sciences, Graduate Education Center Arlington, Alexandria Graduate Education Center, and GW Housing. The print kiosks are monitored 24/7 and have dedicated staff to service printers and replace paper and toner cartridges.

About Colonial Printing and Wepa

What are Colonial Printing and wepa?

GW has partnered with wepa to launch Colonial Printing. Wepa provides wireless, cloud-based printing services to universities across the country.

What is a wepa account?

A wepa account allows you to send files to the cloud, view your current print jobs, and deposit funds for printing. Wepa accounts have been created for all GW students, faculty, and staff. Your wepa username is your NetID(@gwu.edu) and password.

Paying for Prints

Why am I charged a $0.40 fee if I use my credit card?

This is a fee being imposed by the financial institutions every time you use your credit/debit card to pay for a print job. You can avoid this fee by using your GWorld card or your wepa account. You are not charged a transaction fee when you use your credit/debit card to deposit money into your GWorld card or wepa account.

My GWorld card does not work when I swipe it at the kiosk, what should I do?

  1. Log in to the kiosk manually with your NetID(@gwu.edu) to verify your print job uploaded successfully.
  2. Contact the GWorld office at 202-994-1795 to verify that your account is active and has funds available.

I am a GW visitor, can I use Colonial Printing?

Yes, if you are a GW visitor and do not have a GWorld card, you have two printing options:

  1. You can print directly from your USB and pay with your credit/debit card at the kiosk. Please note, there is a $0.40 transaction fee per print job when using credit/debit.
  2. You can register for a wepa account, and deposit funds to your wepa account with your credit/debit card.

Yes, when using an international credit card to pay for prints, enter 00000 in the zip code field and enter the other information as instructed.

What is wepa-Mono or wepa-Mono Duplex?

If you are using a Mac, wepa-Mono will print black and white single-sided prints and wepa-Mono Duplex will print black and white double-sided prints.

Yes, you can print all pages in your document or specify what pages to print.

Yes, Colonial Printing uses 30% recycled paper.

What paper sizes are available?

Colonial Printing kiosks only print on letter size paper (8.5”x11”) at this time. Please format your documents in this size before printing.

Printing Your Documents

How do I access my print job from the Colonial Printing kiosk?

When you visit the Colonial Printing kiosk, you can access your print job by:

  • Inserting your GWorld card
  • Login with your NetID(@gwu.edu)
  • Entering the release code that was generated when your print job was uploaded
  • Login with your wepa account (GW visitor)

How can I verify if my file has been uploaded to the cloud?

When you send a file to print, you will receive a 6-digit release code. This is your confirmation that the file was successfully sent to the print queue. You may view your stored print jobs by logging into the wepa Print mobile app or wepawebsite with your NetID(@gwu.edu).

Why do I have to enter my login credentials each time I print in the lab?

You must log in to access your print jobs stored on the cloud. By logging in, the system also verifies the identity of the account holder.

Your document(s) will be stored in the system for six days.

Does my Mac work with Colonial Printing? What version/software do I need?

Mac drivers are tested for users with a minimum of Mac OS 10.7. Users with versions under 10.7 are able to upload their documents through the "Web Upload" feature in your wepa account. To check what version of Mac OS X you are running, click the apple icon in the upper left of your screen and select About This Mac from the dropdown menu.

What file types are supported from my USB drive?

All Microsoft Office file types, .jpg, .png, and .pdf are supported.

Is there a file size limit for printing?

There is no file size limit for laptop and desktop uploads. USB drives, web, and mobile uploads have a file size limit of 20 MB.

Can I cancel my print job once it has started?

After selecting the payment option, the print job will begin printing. For documents over 10 pages, a ‘cancel’ button is provided to stop the print job. An automatic refund will occur and you will only charge for pages that were printed. A window will appear after canceling the print job stating the amount charged for the number of pages printed.

What mobile devices does Colonial Printing support?

Colonial Printing supports iOS and Android devices. Support for BlackBerry or Windows OS devices is not available at this time.

Why do I get an “Empty List” message when attempting to view my documents on Android 4.4?

An application update for Android 4.4 (KitKat) will be released in the near future that will remedy this issue. If your files fail to display on your Android device you may use the Email-to-Print feature.

What file types can I print from my mobile device?

The following types are supported on iOS and Android devices: .pdf, .rtf and all Microsoft Office file types.

Colonial Printing kiosks will read USB drives formatted in FAT, FAT32, NTFS or exFAT.
